Montreal’s Police Museum

You don’t need to get arrested and detained to visit Montreal’s Police Headquarters.

Located downtown, near Place des Arts and the Quartier des Spectacles — where many of Montreal’s biggest festivals are held — the Montreal Police Museum aims to honour the role played by the thousands of men and women who’ve maintained the peace and public security of this city since 1843.

Upon passing the metal detectors, you will be greeted by a retired police officer who will guide through the building. The tour starts on the ground floor near a plaque commemorating those fallen in the line of duty. You’ll then be escorted through the building’s nine floors – seized Hell’s Angels jackets, antique weapons, century-old fingerprinting kits, and a Honda police motorbike are some of 20000 items preserved, of which hundreds are on display.

The tour includes a walk through the Command Centre on the 8th and 9th floors, where twelve giant interactive screens show ongoing operations. Note that while tours are given in French and in English, the exhibits themselves are in French only.

Open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am till noon. Call 514 280-2043 to schedule a visit.
